How does the Rakuten referral program work?

A friend counts once they sign up through the referral link and make qualifying purchases totaling $50 within 90 days. Bonuses are unlimited, so there is no cap on referrals, and they are added to your next Cash Back payment, generally within 60 days of the friend’s qualifying purchase. A referral doesn’t count if the friend returns or exchanges the qualifying purchase, if the purchase doesn’t earn Cash Back, or if it looks fraudulent or abusive. Rakuten can change or cancel the offer at any time.

How do you get paid by Rakuten?

Rakuten pays Cash Back every three months, on February 15, May 15, August 15 and November 15. You need at least $5 in confirmed Cash Back by the payment date, or it carries over to the next one. You can be paid by PayPal, Bilt Points, Samsung Cash, a check (the “Big Fat Check”), or Membership Rewards points for eligible American Express card members. PayPal and check payments require a mailing address. You can also exchange confirmed Cash Back for a gift card, with a $5 minimum, which arrives within minutes.

The wait is the catch. Pending Cash Back is confirmed in about 3 to 14 weeks for online and in-store purchases, so a purchase made today will likely be paid in February or May, not on the next payment date.
